In honor of Mother's Day, I thought I'd write up a post about my dear mom, so here it goes:
Name: Kaye
Favorite Color: Yellow
Favorite Flower: Gerber Daisies
Grew up in Spanish Fork, Utah
Youngest in her family (like me)
Cheerleader in high school (like me)
Was the Editor of her school newspaper in high school.
Funniest childhood story about her: When she climbed up on top of the fridge to eat a chocolate cake her mother had made and when she tried to swing a girl around by her braids in school (I'm sure she's mortified by that story).
Favorite moment with her: Coming home in the evening to lay in bed with her and talk.
Favorite thing to do with her: Go shopping
Something I admire about her: Her ability to create. She is a fantastic writer and homemaker and she always had the most creative lessons at church.
Something inspirational about her: I LOVE that she went back to school to become a Medical Assistant and now works at a cardiology clinic. She has truly helped to save lives and I know she is where she's supposed to be.
Favorite movie: I would say Steel Magnolias. It's a classic! I also KNOW she loves watching Clueless with me!
Favorite band: Boston
Something people don't know about her: She is excellent at finding deals for trips! Her favorite Disney character is Pluto. She has a small pinprick tattoo on her hand.
She is the best baker and cook that I know! Her Christmas cookies are coveted and my favorite food she makes will always be her baked macaroni and cheese!
She was in a car wreck that made her momentarily forgot she had children.
Childhood memories: sitting out and tanning with her on the deck or in the yard, watching her work so hard to make our yard the most beautiful in the neighborhood, baking with her, canning peaches with her, making jam with her, and going power-walking with her.
My mom loves to play pranks on people. She was in a long prank war with this guy in high school where she basically ruined his car. She would take us to toilet-paper people's houses. She scared my sister's friends while watching a scary movie at our house and dressing up in a black garbage bag and banging on the windows.
She is my personal editor. I love getting her opinion on things I write. She is my personal cheerleader and she always encouraged me to sing and develop my talents. She supported me in the many activities I was involved in even when we didn't have a lot of money. She always puts family first and has made it a point to be around for every major event in our lives, including Jordan's. As I've gotten older, I look to her as an example on how to raise my kids. I enjoy her relationship she has with Olivia, listening to their many conversations and the attention my mom gives her. She is a wonderful grandma and spoils her grandkids rotten! She is the one I turn to for advice or when I need a boost of confidence. When I have a cleaning conundrum I turn to her for tips. She has taught me that dessert is a must, even before dinner has been cleared away. She has taught me to be kinder, more thoughtful, and loving. She has helped me to see when I've done something wrong and praised me when I do something right. She'll never stop being my mom and I'm so grateful I have her in my life. I'm so grateful that I can call her up on the phone to chat, for the many conversations we've had about Pinterest or TV shows she watches, or Candy Crush, or work. I'm grateful I get to dream big with her, that I get to share all of the good and bad that happens to us with her.
If there's one thing I want her to know it's how much I love her. I love her crazy personality, her kind, friendly heart, and that she takes selfies and attempts to stay up-to-date with technology. She's such a fun person to be around and I'm always so sad to leave.
Thanks for making me a banana cake for my birthday. Thank you for everything. Love you Mom!
