Lots of Lasts

I suppose the biggest news that we have is that Jordan has finished his last class of medical school and we attended Match Day with his classmates. It was such a relief and a joy to be at Match Day. I can recall Jordan's White Coat Ceremony so clearly that it feels like it was yesterday. Back then Olivia was barely over a year old and we were trying to adjust to our new life in Houston. I remember missing the Utah mountains terribly as the only elevation we'd see would be from the disastrous Houston highway traffic. I remember feeling lonely and out of place, but we quickly made friends in Houston and now we're off to San Antonio for a new adventure. It makes me so sad to think about leaving all of the fun things in Houston. San Antonio will be similar, but you can't replicate people. I wish! I'd replicate myself a million times! Jordan's Match Day felt like a culmination of all of his hard work. For those that don't know what Match Day is, here is a little explanation: Jordan interviews at different hospitals and ranks each hospital in the specialty he wants to practice in (OBGYN). Those hospitals then rank the students that interview for their program and a computer program matches the student to the hospital. For us, we matched with the military so it was a different experience for us since we found out where we matched in December and we only had five Army hospitals that had an OBGYN program that we could apply to. Many students apply to A LOT more programs than that to ensure that they match. In the end, we made our peace with matching to San Antonio and we feel like it's where we're supposed to be. As we mingled with Jordan's classmates on Match Day I felt such joy that we knew where we were going and that we were months ahead in the moving process compared to our peers and that we had already accepted all the implications of where we are going. Match Day can often be disappointing, because even though everyone at Match Day matches somewhere, they don't always get their first or second choice. It can be hard to handle the emotions and I'm grateful that I had that peace of mind. The experience was so much more enjoyable!

Jordan's parents also came into town, not only for Match Day, but so they could watch the kids while Jordan and I went to San Antonio to look for a house. That's our other BIG news! We signed a contract on a house this last week and we couldn't be more thrilled! It really felt like it was the right place, right time type of situation. The owner of the house has put in a ton of work and really made the house top notch! We close on the house in May and we just pray that everything works out. We love this home and it has made moving to San Antonio even more exciting.
I know it's not a great picture, but once we actually own the house maybe I'll put up a nicer one! We had a great time with Jordan's parents in town. We went to the new and awesome Levy Park, went out to eat, and saw Beauty and the Beast! It was sooooo good! I couldn't help but sing the words to the songs softly, I loved the Beast's song and the animation. Props to Disney for making an already magical movie even more magical! Now PLEASE make The Little Mermaid!

Since our time in Houston is rapidly coming to a close we are trying to get a lot of lasts in. We have gone to the Houston rodeo probably for the last time. We went to Froberg's Farm and picked strawberries. I have a whole list of things I want to do before we leave and the list keeps getting bigger as I think of more things we need to do. I really am going to miss Houston so much! For our first out-of-state experience Houston has been really good to us, except for the two car accidents I was in, which were not my fault. That was not nice. I hate Houston drivers. Our church has been the best support system in place of our families and I know we have made friendships that will last for years to come. I cried on Match Day as I thought about all we've been through the last four years here in Houston. We've gotten two cars, a cat, a new baby, an Associate's Degree in Nursing, a Medical Degree, a plethora of friends, another city to love, countless photos, experiences, and memories, and a whole lotta love...we also can't forget our new Southern terminology of "Hey, ya'll!" I think we're pretty much Texans now through and through. If you think of any LAST things we should do while we're here in Houston, feel free to give us some ideas!
